Black Women's Leadership Institute
About the Leadership Institute
The Black Women’s Leadership Institute is designed to create rich, authentic development experiences that are culturally relevant and will include up-close personal engagement with some of San Antonio’s most visible leaders and experts. Participants will:
Sharpen their focus,
Gain an understanding of their own leadership style,
Learn how to utilize their strengths and skills to add value in their spaces of influence
Learn how to grow their businesses and advance to higher ranks of leadership; and
Increase their opportunities for deeper commitment to community service.
The nine month program will consist of live and online sessions featuring topics of importance to teach women how to get ahead by providing instruction, advice, and encouragement. The program is designed to maximize participant engagement with speakers, mentors, community leaders and BWLA members to build knowledge and the social capital that so many of us are lacking.
In partnership with Our Lady of the Lake University, graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Completion from OLLU indicating a level of excellence synonymous with its commitment to African American education. Two years before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that “separate but equal” public schools for blacks and whites was unconstitutional, two African American women made history as graduates at Our Lady of the Lake College, earning master’s degrees in education and later went on to make their marks in the community.
If you want to increase your leadership capacity or sharpen your leadership skills, this program might be a good fit for you. Women ages 21 and over of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The program will admit a total of 20 women through a competitive selection process.
